My wife and I wanted a new bathroom in our new house, so had moved with a pot of money set aside specifically for this purpose. Rather than get every man and his dog to quote, we took some time to select a few companies to give us a quote and design idea for our new bathroom, so we chose Maurice Parker because they were local to us (and we like to support local businesses where possible) and they had a number of very positive reviews, so that was a good sign.
The lady (ladies?) in the office were really helpful and professional when I contacted them initially, and arranged for Dan, their man-in-the-know to call me back to arrange a date and time for him to come round to discuss further. Dan contacted me soon after and an appointment was made for him to come round - so far so good. However, come the date and time of our appointment with Dan, there was no sign of him.
Given that traffic can be a pain, we gave him the benefit of the doubt but 15 minutes later, still nothing - not even a call or text to explain what was happening, so I called Dan's mobile number and it rang and eventually went to voicemail, so I left a message asking him to call me back as soon as he could and reminded him of the appointment we had arranged.
I also called the office and spoke to a different lady who seemed a little surprised that Dan hadn't turned up - I explained the situation and was told that she would chase Dan up and then she would contact my wife (as I was working in the office at the time). My wife was called back soon after and was told that Dan would be there "in about 15 minutes", but it was more like 35-40 minutes until he actually arrived!
Then when he did, he turned up with somebody else sat in his car (whilst he came in to discuss our bathroom) and said something about the traffic on the A38 and had to stop in at the office on the way - there was no way he would have gotten here on time if that were the case. Dan was at our home for around 10 minutes and said that he would have a design and quote over to us in "about a week" - this was on 5 May.
My wife and I decided to pop into the showroom on Saturday 14 May and spoke to a very friendly chap (Alan?) who showed us around and said he would "let Dan know we'd been in and that we are keen to get our quote", so we left thinking it wouldn't be long until we would get this. However, as of today (17 May) we still haven't had our quote so I called to ask where this was and was told that Dan is now on holiday for 10 days, so it would "be unlikely we'll get it until he's back now" and that they've been "really busy with bookings not looking likely for at least 3 months".
When I explained all the above, the lady I spoke to didn't really seem that bothered by this and almost shrugged it off as though being busy excuses them of this - no, it doesn't. So whilst Maurice Parker may well have some fantastic reviews on here, and may well provide a great service, unfortunately for us it seems we may well never know because if this is how they handle the quoting side of things, who knows what it'll be like when the fitting comes.
What would happen if we had an issue with our bathroom post installation? Would the excuse of "being busy" just be repeated and the delays keep coming? I'm sorry, but when we're looking to invest 12k+ in a new bathroom, you should not have to put up with excuses along the way. Dan could have easily called me back to apologise he was running late - I'm pretty sure the majority of cars have hands-free nowadays, so to not even bother returning my call is bad enough, but to then promise a quote and design in "about a week" and not deliver, before going on your holiday for a further 10 days is quite bad.
I felt the need to leave this review because it seems contradictory to see all these 5-star glowing reviews when in our experience, this was far from the truth. Busy or not, you should still be able to deliver on the basics like turning up on time and delivering what you said you would within the timeframes you gave.
